KEPT FOR HER BABY - Kate Walker

Author Kate Walker has written an extremely perceptive, powerful and heart wrenching romance with Kept for Her Baby. The author addresses a medical problem one out of ten women In North America face after giving birth to a baby which is postpartum depression. Her heroine suffers so badly she actually doesn’t remember what’s she’s done or where she’s been and on top of that leaves her husband and baby in search of help.

Ricardo Emiliani in all of his relationships and affairs with women believes them to be all alike and only interested in one thing…..money! When he meets the lovely Lucy Mottram, he is immediately attracted to her and is determined to become involved with her. She turns him down and realizes what a mistake it was to do so. When she’s given a second chance she jumps on it and eventually becomes pregnant. Ricardo demands they marry for the sake of the baby. The passion they share continues to leaps off the pages. However, there is one problem, Lucy believes that he only married her for the baby and that’s she’s not good enough for him.

Lucy realized early in her relationship with Ricardo and later in their marriage that she loved him. However, she also realized another thing, that once the baby was born he would probably discard her. After the baby comes, they both make many mistakes; he for not paying careful attention to her moods and she for thinking that he only cared about his business and that he possibly found her unattractive. Because of the way their marriage began and after their baby Marco is born, Lucy suffers a depression and does very strange things. In the end, she’s afraid she’ll harm the baby so she leaves Ricardo a note and disappears. Now months later, she’s better and returns to the villa to plead with Ricardo to let her be a part of her baby’s life.

In the end, Ricardo allows Lucy to stay and get to know Marco but their relationship is up and down as far as trust, communication and their emotions are up and down, changing daily. It’s extremely obvious their attraction for each other is still as powerful as when they first met. How they get to the point of understanding what went wrong in their marriage and how they should move forward was very emotional and distressful to read. However, their journey in finding peace, happiness and realizing how much they loved each other was a beautiful ending.

As a mother myself and never having suffered from this sort of depression, my heart went out to Lucy’s character because I can’t imagine having the feeling of ever harming a child. The other day on US national TV, there was a short piece on postpartum depression where the doctor said that everyone after giving childbirth should be screened and evaluated for postpartum depression. Now that I’ve read Kept for Her Baby, I totally agree. I hope that anyone who reads this book, who has recently given birth or is about to will pay attention to the storyline.

For author Kate Walker I can only imagine this was an emotional book to write. My personal thanks to you for taking the courage to address such an emotional and sensitive subject. You created a very moving and beautiful love story.

The Magnate's Baby Promise - Paula Roe

Author Paula Roe literally charmed me with The Magnate's Baby Promise. A one night stand, "black sheep of the family", a business in trouble and a secret pregnancy, how much more exciting can a romance begin? Well, let me tell you there is so much more.

Ava Reilly is a woman in trouble......she's pregnant and her Outback retreat center is going under due to financial difficulties. Ava's from a very small town where everyone knows each other's business and she's always been the focal point for the town residents to discuss her business. She's a natural born beauty, with determination and spunk and is determined not to fail again in her life's endeavors. Your heart will go out to Ava and you'll understand why when she got a chance to escape some of her financial situations and spent sometime with a friend in the big city and live it up a little, she took the chance. Especially when she met a handsome man who knocked her socks off! Meeting the dynamite Cal, spending one night of passion in his arms....the next morning rather than facing Cal, she flees.

Cal Prescott is a very fortunate young man as he's one of two potential heirs to Prescott Enterprises. He's step father however has dangled something over his biological son and stepson, get married and produce an heir and the business shall go to the winner. Cal has worked extremely hard and developed computer software which is recognized as number one. However, his step brother has no interest in the business. He's angry with his step father and angry with himself as he can't get the woman he spent one night with months ago, out of his mind. Cal hires an investigator to find his mystery woman and to his surprise finds out she lives in the Outback and that's she's pregnant. Is she pregnant with his child? Will he now get the very one thing he wants and deserves, Prescott Enterprises?

It's one roller coaster ride of a romance is all I can say for they both have secrets, there are demands, negotiations and coming to terms with the past, especially for Ava. At times it was extremely sad to read. Not so much for Cal as one realizes that he's been blessed with a loving mother, accepted by his stepfather and has actually lead a very privileged life. However, for Ava, quite the opposite. She was always considered second best and suffered a family tragedy. Yet Ava sees the beauty in the land and due to her past is one determined young woman to keep her baby and home. And as for Cal, he learns that living the privileged life and getting what he wants might not bring happiness.

This was my first Paula Roe romance and certainly will not be my last. This romantic tale set in Sydney and the Outback was about finding love, acceptance and peace and such a powerful and entertaining read.

Behind the Book from Paula's Website.

Book Description:

For billionaire businessman Cal Prescott, there was no question. He'd marry and produce the requisite heir. And he wouldn't have to look far for the right bride—his one-night affair with Ava Reilly had left Cal's senses riled and Ava pregnant with his baby.

Sheer desperation had Ava agreeing to marry without love. She wanted her land as much as Cal wanted his corporation…and they both wanted their unborn child. Surely that would be enough to build a marriage on. That, and the burning passion that longed to be reawakened….

Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child - Chantelle Shaw

Author Chantelle Shaw never fails to deliver and the Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child is no exception. From Shaw's debut book, I've read everything she's written and her stories are always very powerful and focused on the alpha male and Diego Ortega is just that. He's handsome, quite the ladies man, rich and has a childhood secret which will rock the reader's world.

Diego arrives in England to assist in training the Hardwich Polo club and getting them ready for a championship match. What is doesn't count on is meeting the very beautiful Rachel, a stable girl who is thrown off her horse. His entire time spent at Harwich, he is attracted to this sweet and talented horsewoman who's unstable family history and story will break one's heart.

It's the typical natural beauty and arrogant alpha love story.....they meet, have an
affair, she gets pregnant and he forces her to marry for the sake of the child. However, don't be misled by this petite woman with a heart as strong as the horse she rides and adores. She's fierce, loves with a passion and it may take a long time but she wins the love this this stubborn man!

What I found so beautiful about this story is that they both healed each other with their passion and love.

Book Description:

Billionaire polo player Diego Ortega has seen the world and sampled many of its women. Sweet beauty Rachel Summers has sated his appetite—so why does he find his body yearning for more?

Rachel knows she is not Diego's type—less glamorous supermodel, more wholesome country girl. But that doesn't mean she has to wear her heart on her sleeve. She kept her virginity a secret before he bedded her…. But now she has to tell Diego she's carrying his baby!

Recipe of the Month - Apple Cake

While driving to work yesterday I noticed the leaves are starting to turn and it made me think about how much I love the Fall and wonderful smells from the kitchen. Here's a cake I found from The Cooke Shop Blog that I thought I would try. Living in the State of Washington we have so many wonderful apples.

Apple Spice Cake

This cake is very moist and tender, and the cinnamon scent will take over your kitchen when it’s in the oven.

The top, best part, gets this delicious and melt-in-your-mouth and beautiful and crumbly texture. I’ve made it with and without the nuts suggested in the recipe, and it gets extra special with walnuts. I even used pears instead of the apples, and it was delicious as usual.
Ingredients

• 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil (I use canola oil)
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 large eggs
• 3 to 4 Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch pieces (3 cups) (use 3 apples, gala or fuji)
• 1 cup chopped assorted nuts, such as pecans and walnuts (optional)
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 12-cup Bundt pan with cooking spray set aside or large angel food cake pan.

2. Working over a large sheet of parchment paper, sift together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt; gather sifted ingredients into center of sheet; set aside. (I sift everything in a large bowl)

3. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine vegetable oil, sugar, and eggs; mix on high speed until lemon yellow.

4. Fold reserved parchment in half lengthwise; with mixer on medium speed, gradually shake in dry ingredients until just incorporated.

5. Add apples and, if desired, nuts, to batter; mix to combine. Add vanilla, mixing until incorporated.

6. Pour batter into prepared pan, and bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 75 to 90 minutes.

7. Remove from oven, and cool slightly on a wire rack.

8. Invert cake onto rack; turn cake right-side up to cool completely on rack

He let’s her return to Australia to run her ranch which he as restored to pristine conditions along with a ranch manager, housekeeper and cook, stock everything she could possibly want with the exception of her prince. Marion Lennox’s addition to The Royal House of Karedes was a perfect royal read.

THE VIRGIN SECRETARY'S IMPOSSIBLE BOSS - Carole Mortimer

Andrea Buttonfield has a serious problem. Not only was her father and fiancé recently killed in an automobile accident, she and her mother have been left penniless. Linus Harrison a millionaire has offered to purchase the family home but he wants something from Andrea, he wants her to be his personal assistance. In exchange, he’ll allow her mother to live rent free at the gate house. She really has no choice, so she accepts his offer.

Now a year later, Linus wants her to accompany him to Scotland to view a possible new venture. He’s a rugby fan and also plans to attend a match and also stop by and see his aunt who he adores. As a young boy, his mother passed away and this woman raised him. For Andrea this is a problem because she’s more away of him as a man. She’s also aware he doesn’t mix business with pleasure so she’s concerned about taking the trip with Linus.

The Virgin Secretary’s Impossible Boss is the last book in the International Billionaire series, a series created by Mills and Boon and the 6 Nations Rugby League. This particular book takes place over a few short days, days filled with torment for Andrea and frustration for Linus.

Carole Mortimer’s development of both characters actually reminded me of Spencer Tracy and Kathryn Hepburn as they agreed to disagree. The sexual tension rolls off both of them as well as frustration. When they become snowbound and there is only one room and one bed, you can well imagine the mess it creates. Andi is so aware of Linus, it tortures her and when he kisses her it's torment for them both.

Linus as a young man only concerned himself with one thing, becoming a success. He gained his success honestly and I believe because of his mother and aunt and their teachings. As for women, he chose them carefully; always making sure no one got hurt. Now since he’s kissed Andi, he realizes all he wants is to get her in his bed. However, he also realizes he needs to get things back on an professional basis as boss and PA. His only mistake is when he blurts out that her fiancé was a shake!

Andi learning the truth creates such an emotional mess, she leaves him and returns home to her mother to learn the truth. However, the truth jumps out at her when she realizes she loves Linus. She adores him for the man he’s become, due to his hard work, guidance from the women who raised him and his honestly, unlike her fiancé.

The Virgin Secretary’s Impossible Boss was a fun and charming read and a spectacular ending to the wonderful International Billionaire series.

Book Description:

Linus Harrison's masculinity is a little too much for his sensible, bespectacled assistant, Andrea. He makes her heart beat like crazy! And the last thing Andi expects is to have to spend a weekend alone with her wild, irrepressible boss….

Billionaire Linus loves a challenge and relishes his chance to undo Miss Prim and Proper's buttoned-up exterior. It only takes one snowbound Scottish night to ignite the flames of the devilishly handsome businessman's desire. With sparks flying, how can Andi resist?

THE BILLIONAIRE’S FAKE ENGAGEMENT - Robyn Grady

Natalie Wilder had a past and she was keeping it a secret from her billionaire lover Alexander Ramirez and the rest of the world. At seventeen she became pregnant; the father left her and her home town leaving her and her family to be town gossips. She delivered her baby girl early due to an accident and two hours later watched her pass away in her arms. Now she’s living in Sydney Australia and is a high end real estate agent. However, her grief for her baby is real and she visits the grave site and her mom when she can.

Alex Ramirez is a well known billionaire and is awaiting an answer on an important business deal. However, he’s attending his sister’s engagement party and has taken Natalie along as his guest but he also wants her to meet his sister. They’d been together for 3 months in a very intense relationship with no talk of future. Alex new he would marry and produce heirs and the reputation of the woman he would marry would need to have a wife to be above reproach. He remembers a discussion with his father about marriage and responsibility

It’s an awaiting game to get the results of the paternity test and Alex needs Natalie with him. He purchases a mansion and asks her to move in and also makes arrangements with her boss for her to have time off where they spend time on the beach at his secluded summer home. Their time together is romantic yet tense because the tests haven’t come back. The reporter is lurking around and Natalie makes her trek back home to her home town to see her mom. People in the town still stare at her and more and more she realizes sometime soon she’s going to need to tell Alex the truth because she’s in love with him.

It’s very clear to Natalie that that how he sees his future is married and with a son, a son she can’t give him due to complications that happened after the birth of her baby. Secrets as we all know have a way of blowing up in ones face and she keeps putting off telling him about her past. For them blow after blow, a young man they met on the beach whose mother was ill, her telling him about her infertile condition and her mother having a heart attack. How much more could they survive because there was one thing for sure….he wanted her, wanted to marry her.

Trust me, for this couple things keep going down hill with the exception of Alex finding out he’s not the father as he was accused. But when he she sends him away, he’s at his lowest. Be prepared for a good cry as it’s obvious they both belong together. Especially when he gives her a gift of love, a pledge of honour, truly a selfless gift one the reader will long remember.

Robyn Grady has a special gift of expressing her thoughts, and showing her character’s deepest emotions, a gift that is so romantic and sweet especially in this wonderful love story. I could actually believe her baby was an angel which brought them together and tears to my eyes.

The longer they saw each other the more Alex became open about their relationship and of course he had questions and wanted to know about her family and past. So as they are getting ready to leave the engagement party, he is accosted by a former business man and accuses in front of the party goers that his daughter is expecting and accuses Alex of being the father. To make matters worse, a reporter is awaiting them on the street and asks Alex two questions…..what’s he going to do about the baby and is he going to marry Natalie. On the spur of the moment, Alex answers “yes”!

Behind the book from Dear Reader:

Robbie poses the question “ have you ever been so badly burned that you were unable to forgive the person responsible? Sometimes forgiving ourselves over enduring regrets can prove even more difficult than forgiving others”. RG

CONQUERING KING'S HEART - Maureen Child (Kings of California series)

He had become a professional surfer, he's traveled the world, he was voted California's Sexiest Bachelor and he owned a very successful business. However, he never wanted a corporate life like his cousins and his brothers. Now he owned King Beach and had done the one thing he didn't want, become a businessman.

One of his reasons for returning to Morgan Beach was a woman he couldn't forget three years earlier. A woman who haunted him because he would never forget their night of passion on the beach. Now living here and meeting Bella Cruz she intrigues him and something about her still feels familiar. She's stubborn; determined to stand her ground because she thought he was taking away the town's history by his renovations. What she doesn't realize later is that he wants her swimsuit business to compliment his already successful line of men's wear but he wants her as well.

Three years earlier Bella had been star struck by Jesse. He was in Morgan Beach for a surfing competition and they met and later than evening after drinks had made love. However, the next day she remembered how humiliated she was when he barley acknowledged her and he walked away.

Bella loved Morgan Beach as it gave her a sense of security. She lost her parents at a young age and after finishing school came to Morgan Beach on a vacation, eventually making it her home. It was a small town with people who cared about each other.

They have two things in common, a night of mind blowing intimacy and they both sell swim wear. When Jesse is having a photo shoot of his line Bella makes a point, she dares him to put his female models in her suits. Again, Jesse feels something about Bella is familiar; could she be his mystery woman? Only one way to find out........he kisses her and it's confirmed. After their kiss, he realizes Bella was his mystery woman. He won't take no for an answer. He's a King and he's up for the challenge. They have a date and he issues a bet, one she looses. Can she survive another night of passion?

For the King family, winning was everything and Jesse felt the same. Second best wasn't an option. That was one thing they disagreed on. Bella was her business because she cared about her clients, her weavers and seamstresses. Her designs were for women who she wanted help feel good about themselves.

Could there be a lesson for Jesse to learn? He was a King, it was in his blood to succeed but what if he didn't get everything he wanted? The King's were rich but Bella wondered if Jesse really realized he was rich because of the family he had, one she longed for since she'd lost her own at such a young age. He was the "never" kind of man and she definitely was not the "temporary" kind of woman. However, she "snuck under his radar", she meant something to him and she was giving him a chance at her business. Until everything came apart.

What struck me was that Jesse had wealth well beyond measure; he had a great family...... brothers, sisters-in-laws and their children. Something so precious and more valuable that being a successful businessman. However, Bella completed everything important in his life and taught him lessons he was not prepared for, like truth, trust, honesty and most important love. When she realized everything was a scheme to get her business and to seduce her she ended their relationship. Everything in his life was easy; he had people in place to make sure his operations and charities ran smoothly. His biggest challenge in life would be to prove to her he loved her and receive her forgiveness. That journey was amazing to read.

Maureen Child dazzled me with Conquering King's Heart and I look forward to reading about the other two King's.

Book Description:

For three years she'd haunted his dreams. And the memory of that heated anonymous night sent tycoon Jesse King back to Morgan Beach, California, determined to find her. He would have his mystery woman once more—a King never lost.

Bella Cruz was far from happy to see Jesse again. The millionaire had swept her off her feet, then left, and now he didn't even recognize her! And since he was her new landlord, she couldn't avoid him. Heaven help her if he discovered her identity, for she'd never be able to deny the power of King's seduction….

MISTRESS TO MERCILIESS MILLIONAIRE - Abby Green

Awareness, passion, conflict are what author Abby Green does best and Mistress to the Merciless Millionaire is no exception. Earlier in the year in “Brought for the Frenchman's Pleasure" readers met Sorcha Murphy who was Tiarnan’s sister and Kate’s best friend. This reviewer has long been awaiting Tiarnan and Kate’s story.

Tiarnan is a handsome and ruthless man and one alpha who doesn’t miss a thing. During a christening of his sister’s baby in which he and Kate are godparents, he becomes distinctly aware of the power he has over her and literally sees into her soul. Because ten years earlier after realizing what a lovely young woman she had grown into, they shared a kiss, a kiss neither of them have forgotten, especially Kate. And now weeks later he still remembers what passed between them and now he’s attending an auction where Kate is up for bid for a kiss. He wins in more ways than one but for Kate she’s in turmoil because he still means the world to her.

Kate flees the auction and Tiarnan catches up and brings up their past and how he realizes their passion for each other is NOT over! She remembers his long ago rejection and is humiliated but he keeps reminiscing about their past and discusses with her how due to their mutual desire, he would like to spend time with her. However, Kate also is aware that he goes from one woman to another, in fact he’s been married and divorced and has a lovely little girl Rosie. She doesn’t want to be a notch on his bedpost to satisfy his curiosity of what might have been. However, this very determined alpha has other plans for Kate. He’s sure that once they become lovers an eventually end the affair, it will be the last he’ll think of this beautiful woman, the same woman who has haunted him for years.

As for the women in his life, he keeps them at arms length. He’s also concerned because of his daughter as to what lengths women would go to win him over. His past with his ex-wife and parents have somewhat shaped his ideas about marriage so he’s not into a permanent relationship. For Kate, all she wants eventually is to be loved and have a home full of children and love.

Second chances? It’s a lovely romantic love story set is some of the most beautiful parts of the world. San Francisco, New York, the Caribbean and Spain where Tiarnan and Rosie live and where Kate has just finished modelling. He uses his daughter to get Kate to visit and when his nanny has to leave because of an emergency and he has a business trip, Kate volunteers to stay with the sweet little girl. Upon his return he invites to accompany he and Rosie to his Caribbean home for a holiday.

Can she take this holiday with the man of her dreams? Can she survive an affair? Kate decides to go for that reason but on her terms and she’ll walk away at the end of their holiday. What she doesn’t count on as how much she enjoys her time spent with both of them.

Just prepare yourself for tears as you watch their romance blossom and sizzle; the interaction between Kate and Rosie and Rosie’s Caribbean extended family and friends. On top of everything else the conflict between Kate and Tiarnan and his mistrust of her when he sends her home because he feels Kate has used Rosie to get to him. I think what I personally enjoyed the most was reading about Tiarnan coming to terms with his feelings. Mistress to the Merciless Millionaire is just another amazing and wonderful love story so well penned by Abby Green; quite stunning!

Book Description:

It's been ten years since Tiarnan Quinn humiliatingly rejected Kate, and she's still smarting. As a famous model she can have any man she wants. But there's something about the coldhearted millionaire that makes her go weak at the knees. So much so she agrees to jet off to his luxury villa in Martinique.

Kate knows Tiarnan can't give her what she wants: true love and a family. But as the sultry nights close in she begins to see hints of a different man beneath the hard exterior….
